Creative Unity Rituals

Thoughtfully crafted ceremonies that honour love, life, and connection.

Sand Ceremony

"The unity sand ceremony", is a variation of the unity candle ceremony, it is a tradition full of symbolism. Two people take sand from their individual vessels and combine the grains into one. The act represents the joining of two individuals and the creation of a new union and family. The joined vessel symbolises the marriage of both partner’s hopes, dreams and values. The sand ceremony can be extended if children are involved to include a family connection.

Painting Ceremony

A painting ceremony is either performed by a live artist at the wedding ceremony, or it can be performed by the couple. A creative piece of art is an alternative to a unity ceremony. The spontaneity of pouring paint together on to canvas represents their union and matching their wedding colours they complete a symbol to be displayed in their home as a memory.

Unity Candles

Unity Candles

Unity candles are where at the ceremony two candles are used to lite a single, larger, central candle symbolising the union of two lives.

Candle of Remembrance

Lighting a candle at a funeral symbolises a loved one’s memory, living on, like a beacon of hope in darkness, the light symbolises life, hope and a sense of peace during grief. The candle rituals are deeply personal and have been carried out for many years, in many cultures and religions and non-religious contexts.

At weddings and funerals remembering absent members with a candle can provide a moment of private reflection, the steady flame is a reminder that the memory and spirit of the person live on and is being specially remembered at the ceremony, sometimes without any words or attention being drawn to the fact.
